Bodywurx®
A Body Mind Approach
The Bodywurx® Philosophy
By: Barry Bruder, Ms.T.
The approach is a multi-dimensional process through which the practitioner and recipient partner to invite a heightened healing state. At the onset of our healing odyssey, we look toward the physical.
We live in our body; would it not seem sensible to begin our journey there? The Bodywurx approach tends to the body through energy- work, bodywork, pointwork, breath and soundwork and emotional release.
The energywork is rooted in Asian, Brazilian, Native American and Maori energy medicine. The massage encompasses Swedish, Esalen, Shiatsu and Trigger Pointwork. The deep tissue entails structural integration in the realm of Rolfing & Hellerwork; yet the Bodywurx® approach is its own distinct form.
The pointwork was inspired by a Maori style of working deep within trigger points. The breath and soundwork evolved out of a natural tendency to release emotional unfinished business (also know as prior patterns of emotional holding).
“When two or more are gathered…”
There seems to be something magical in the joining of two people of singular intent. It has been said that “No one is an island.” It appears that in our human design there are certain times when working with an ally, guide or partner we may significantly amplify the potential of our ability to sustainably heal.
There is a notion that when we work on various delicate or vulnerable issues we may feel fearful or “grow young.” Therefore, the critical need to be kept safe is heightened. Also, there are certain emotions, safer navigated with the assistance of a facilitator.
The Body As A Guide
Our body is a microcosm a mirror to our emotional, mental and psychic selves. This is a source of great joy as well challenge. It is also quite a useful tool. It is difficult in that we seem to shy away from pain. In doing so, we may suppress our pain. This can cause us to store even more deeply, that which actually begs to be released in us.
What is helpful is that the body never lies. It is a tell-tale roadmap to our healing. It can show us how we’ve mistreated it in our activities of daily life; and how we’ve polluted it in our over-eating, drugs or anything that we allowed ourselves to do to an extreme.
Our bodies also hold the key to our past. Trauma, loss, abandonment, inundation/invasion, or perpetrations are all accessible through our body. This portal into our being, our past, is like the password to our “hard drive” and all of its date.
It is through a body mind approach we can begin dealing with the stored unfinished business. Yet, it is a process. It took months if not years to develop such a cache of issues. It stands to reason that we need more than a few sessions to locate, understand and release the held patterns.
Consider that such shifts occur multi-dimensionally, physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. We look therefore toward an exploration of our emotional patterns and our thoughts and belief systems to access sustained joy and freedom from previously limiting thoughts or beliefs.
